The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on March 3, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Kellan Huang, Albion
Sophomore, IF/P
Canton, Mich.
Huang threw five innings in Albion's 12-2 win over Franklin March 2, scattering two hits and three walks while striking out six. Huang gave up only one run during his time on the mound and aided the offensive effort in the game with one run after notching a base hit and a walk.
Sean Haddlesey, Albion
Freshman, OF
Ann Arbor, Mich.
Haddlesey had a solid collegiate debut, batting .500 (6-for-12) with four RBI, a walk, and a double in Albion's first action of the season in a three-series set against Franklin March 1-2. In Albion's 12-2 win over Franklin March 2, Haddlesey went 3-for-5 with three RBI. In the field, Haddlesey was error-free on seven fielding opportunities.
Nate Silverman, Kalamazoo

Silverman made 16 saves and finished with a 66.7 save percentage in Kalamazoo's 15-8 road win against Benedictine March 2 in the Hornets' season opener. Silverman also gathered one ground ball and caused one turnover.
Jacob Gandara, Calvin

Santa Clarita, Calif.
Gandara turned in a five-goal effort in Calvin's 16-5 win over Muskingum March 2. Over a two-game span for the Knights, Gandara averaged 3.0 goals and 3.0 ground balls per game and finished the two-game week with a 77.8 shot on goal percentage.
Lilly Baumann, Kalamazoo

Exton, Pa.
Baumann was a key player in Kalamazoo's 17-8 win over Aquinas March 2, posting a game-high nine draw controls in the victory. Baumann added five ground balls, six caused turnovers, and added a goal for the Hornets.
Olivia Benoit, Alma

Grosse Pointe North, Mich.
Benoit fueled a 3-0 week for Alma, averaging 4.6 goals, 5.3 draw controls, 4.3 ground balls, and 3.3 caused turnovers per game. Along with shooting 42.4 percent with a 75.8 shots on goal percentage, Benoit tallied seven goals and one assist in Alma's 16-12 win at Franklin March 2 while adding eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Skylar Crisenbery, Alma
Freshman, P
Watervliet, Mich.
Crisenbery went 2-1 in five appearances last week, including a six-inning, 11-0 win against Johnson & Wales Feb. 26. In the game, Crisenbery gave up four hits while striking out three in the complete-game win. For the week, Crisenbery had three starts, threw 17.0 innings with a 2.88 ERA, and tallied six strikeouts.
McKenzie Creed, Alma

Edwardsburg, Mich.
Creed batted .556 (15-for-27) during a 6-2 week for Alma, including a .963 sluggling percentage to go with five runs scored. Against Neumann Feb. 28, Creed was 4-for-4 with two home runs and a double on the way to a 14-2 alma win. Creed had at least one hit in each game, with four multi-hit games on the week. Creed also went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI in a 7-3 win over MSOE March 1.
MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Jose Larrea, Calvin

Larrea went 3-0 at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles on a week where Calvin posted a 4-0 team record. At No. 1 singles, Larrea won in straight sets three times, losing just six games in those matches. Larrea also went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, including a convincing 8-0 win over Lakeland.

Newhof was a two-time winner for the Knights in Calvin's 6-3 setback to reagionally-ranked Wheaton March 1. Starting at No. 1 doubles, Newhof was part of an 8-2 win with Madeline Brouwer. In singles play, Newhof was the lone Calvin winner, making quick work of Wheaton's Emma Westwick in a 6-0, 6-1 straight-set win.
