The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on February 3, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Nathaniel Collins, Albion
Senior, Guard
West Bloomfield, Mich.
Collins came off the bench to tally 17 of his team-high 20 points in Albion's 88-77 win over Alma Feb. 2. Collins went 5-of-6 from three-point range and 7-of-8 from the field on the way to a season-best 20 points in 15 minutes of play, one point off a career-high.
Gabby Timmer, Calvin
Freshman, Forward
Caledonia, Mich.
Timmer turned in game-highs of 25 points and 20 rebounds to fuel Calvin's 74-69 win over Albion Feb. 2. The double-double was Timmer's ninth of the season, while the 20 rebounds was a season-best for the freshman. Timmer shot 10-of-14 from the field, with a 2-for-2 effort from three-point range; Timmer added three assists, one steal, and one block in 35 minutes of work.
Jeffery Barnett, Trine

Fremont, Ohio
Barnett won the long jump at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic Feb. 2, out-jumping a field of 26 participants with an effort of 6.88m (22 feet, 7 inches). Barnett's effort would rank in the top 25 nationally and first in the MIAA if not for Barnett's 7.25m effort earlier this season.
Justin Freeman, Hope

Freeman won the 60m dash at the Windy City Invitational Feb. 1, first posting the top qualifying time among 31 participants (6.92 seconds) before winning the final with a time of 6.91 seconds, good for first in the MIAA and tied for eighth in NCAA Division III.
ShaQuoria Thompson, Albion

Thompson won the shot put at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic Feb. 2, defeating a field of 45 competitors with a distance of 13.61m (44 feet, 8 inches) to move up to 11th nationally and first in the MIAA. Thompson added a 12th place finish in the weight throw (13.07), eighth-best in the MIAA.
Cassie Vince, Albion

Amherst, Ohio
Vince was the lone NCAA Division III competitor in a field of 52 competitors in the 3,000m run at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational Feb. 2, finishing seventh overall with a time of 9:31.07. Vince's time not only ranks first in the MIAA, but is second-best in NCAA Division III this season and sixth-fastest in NCAA Division III history.
Grant Williams, Hope

East Grand Rapids, Mich.
Williams was a two-time winner on the boards for Hope last week, winning with 310.60 on the 1-meter board and 324.00 on the 3-meter board. Williams' score on the 1-meter board set a Kresge Natatorium record.
Sharif Shaker, Kalamazoo

Castro Valley, Calif.
Shaker was a two-time winner against Calvin Feb. 2, taking victories in the 100 fly (52.86) and 200 back (1:59.76). Shaker added a third-place finish in the 100 back (53.64) and added a 47.7 split on Kalamazoo's 400 Free Relay team.
MIAA Women's Diver of the Week
Nicki Bailey, Kalamazoo

Grand Rapids, Mich.
Bailey re-set the Kalamazoo record on the 1-meter board, scoring 448.43 for an 11-dive set on the low board for an NCAA qualifying mark. Bailey then scored 452.48 on the 3-meter board to finish second overall at Calvin Feb. 2.
Molly Logsdon, Kalamazoo

Logsdon won both the 100 and 200 breststroke events against Calvin Feb. 2, touching first with times of 1:09.43 and 2:32.99, respectively. Logsdon also swam the breaststroke leg of Kalamazoo's 200 Medley Relay, posting a 31.61 split.
Ian Yi, Kalamazoo

Yi went 2-0 at No. 1 singles in Kalamazoo's opening weekend of spring play, leading the Hornets to a 9-0 win over Wabash Feb. 2 thanks to a 6-0, 6-1 No. 1 singles win. Yi also was part of an 8-3 win at No 1 doubles in the season-opening win. Against No. 3 Chicago Feb. 3, Yi posted a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Chicago's Erik Kerrigan.

Bandrowski was part of two Hope victories in a 6-3 setback to No. 10 Chicago Feb. 2, winning at No. 1 doubles with teammate Claire Hallock (8-3) before a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles.
