The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on December 2, 2018.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Pete Smith, Trine
Senior, Guard
Bristol, Ind.
Smith scored a game-high 21 points to go with five rebounds, three steals, and two assists in Trine's 92-63 win over Manchester Nov. 27. Smith connected on 5-of-10 shooting from long range and finished 8-of-13 from the field.
Gabby Timmer, Calvin
Freshman, Forward
Caledonia, Mich.
Timmer averaged 27.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.5 blocks in two Calvin wins last week. Against MIAA foe Saint Mary's Dec. 1, Timmer shot 13-of-16 from the field, an effort that is tied for 12th nationally in field goal percentage in a game to aid the Knights in their 62-54 road win. Earlier in the week, Timmer tallied 27 points to lead all scorers in Calvin's 62-56 victory against Finlandia Nov. 28, adding 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Richard Annorat, Albion

Naples, Fla.
Annorat started the 2018-19 competition season with a second-place finish in the triple jump at the Tiffin Alumni Open Dec. 1. In a field that included NCAA Division I and Division II athletes, Annorat bounded 13.88m in the triple jump, finishing behind an NCAA Division II competitor. Annorat added a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.94m) and also placed eighth in the 60m Hurdles (8.72).
Andrew Wittland, Albion

Wittland turned in a personal-best of 15:40.91 in the 5,000m Run at the Tiffin Alumni Open Dec. 1 to take second place overall; Wittland was the top collegiate finisher in the field.
ShaQuoria Thompson, Albion

Thompson finished 10th overall in the shot put at the Tiffin Alumni Open Dec. 1, marking 12.12m to win the first flight in her first intercollegiate competition.
Layla Wilks, Albion
Sophomore
Chicago, Ill.
Wilks won the 200m Dash at the Tiffin Alumni Open Dec. 1, finishing first among 58 competitors in the event with a time of 25.97. Wilks also broke her own school record in the 60m Dash, clocking a time of 7.86 in the semifinals on the way to an eighth-place finish.
Kamaron Wilcox, Hope

Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wilcox took ninth on the 3-meter board at the Carthage Invitational Dec. 1 with a personal-best score of 285.25. It was one of two personal bests for Wilcox, who took 10th on the 1-meter board with a score of 291.80.
Ryan Gelderloos, Calvin
Sophomore
Grand Rapids, Mich.
Gelderloos cut time on all seven of his swims at the Knight Invite Nov. 29-Dec. 1, aiding Calvin in a third-place finish. In the 800 Free Relay, Gelderloos had a split of 1:43.3 on the second leg to trim seven seconds from his previous best time. In the 200 Fly, Gelderloos touched in 1:57.39 in the prelims for the fourth-best time in the MIAA this season. Gelderloos also posted a time of 4:19.54 for a personal best and a 20-second improvement from earlier in the year. His individual swims in the 100 Fly, 200 Fly, and 400 IM are in the top 10 in the MIAA.
MIAA Women's Diver of the Week
Nicki Bailey, Kalamazoo
Sophomore
Grand Rapids, Mich.
Bailey had a strong showing against a field featuring NCAA Division II competitors at the Knight Invite Nov. 29-Dec. 1, taking second on the 3-meter board with a score of 408.25 as the highest scoring Division III competitor by almost 40 points. On the 1-meter board, Bailey placed third overall and was the top Division III diver with a score of 401.90.
Emily Gunderson, Calvin

Gunderson swam the leadoff 50 free for Calvin's 200 Free Relay squad at the Knight Invite Nov. 29-Dec. 1, touching in 23.60 for the top time in the MIAA this season and 13th fastest in the NCAA; her effort helped the Knights post a 200 Free Relay time of 1:34.88, good for seventh-best in the NCAA. Gunderson added personal bests of 53.18 in the 100 Free (third-best in MIAA) and 57.86 in the 100 Back (fifth-best in MIAA).
Luke Carver, Trine

Sturgis, Mich.
Finished as the runner up at the Ohio Northern Invitational Dec. 1, posting a 3-1 record with three pins. Carver started with a fall against Adrian's Zach Reynolds (2:32) and then added a pin in 1:57 against Otterbein's Jarrod Setliff. Carver advanced to the championship match after pinning Adrian's Devon Pingel in 4:17.
