MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for April 10

On Monday, the MIAA awarded 14 weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for April 10 are:

Defensive Player of the Week


Andrew Caris, Hope

Freshman, D
Hartland, Mich. 

• Was a key factor for Hope defensively, aiding the Flying Dutchmen to a 2-0 week against MIAA opponents

• In 15-9 win against Alma April 5, held the Scots' top scorer to just one goal while gathering two ground balls with a caused turnover and one goal scored

• Against Adrian April 8, helped hold the Bulldogs to just two goals with two ground balls and two caused turnovers

Offensive Player of the Week


Chase Hunyadi, Alma

Freshman, A
Pepper Pike, Ohio 

• Tallied nine goals and one assist in two MIAA contests, including a five goal, one assist effort in 13-8 win at Trine April 8

• Registered four goals with one ground ball in road contest against Hope April 5

Defensive Player of the Week


Shannon Kahl, Albion

Junior, M
Brighton, Mich.

• As a defensive midfielder, had three caused turnovers, six ground balls and seven draw controls while adding two goals in 16-7 win at Alma April 5

• Added four draw controls and two ground balls while holding Calvin's leading scorer to just one goal in April 8 contest against the Knights

Offensive Player of the Week


Amanda Davio, Calvin

Okemos, Mich.

• In 10-6 win at Albion April 8, scored four of Calvin's six first-half goals to help set the tempo

• Finished with game-high five goals in the win while adding four ground balls and a caused turnover while committing no turnovers

Pitcher of the Week


Pierce Banks, Adrian

Sterling Heights, Mich. 

• Carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Adrian's 8-3 victory over Calvin April 7

• Finished with a career-best eight strikeouts to just one walk while giving up one hit in 7.0 innings of work to earn the win

• In a 3-1 week for Alma, batted .625 with a .750 slugging percentage and .667 OBP with two doubles and just one strikeout in 18 plate appearances

• Had a streak of eight consecutive hits during doubleheader at home against Trine April 8, including the game-deciding double that plated the winning run in extra innings

Softball

 

Pitcher of the Week


Morgan Raymer, Saint Mary's

Junior, P
Mt. Washington, Ky.

• Made four appearances in four MIAA wins, with two starts and a complete game, pitching 15.0 innings with 12 strikeouts to just one walk

• Threw 11.0 scoreless innings in shutout victories at Calvin April 8, including 7 innings while giving up just three hits in 3-0 complete game

• Struck out two in 1.0 innings in relief in 5-1 win against Albion April 9

• In four MIAA wins for Saint Mary's, batted .429 with a 1.000 slugging percentage with five extra-base hits, including three triples

• In 9-1 win against Albion April 9, went 3-for-3 at the plate with three extra-base hits (2 doubles, 1 triple) while adding a stolen base, three RBI and two runs scored

• In 3-0 victory at Calvin April 8, had an RBI and a run scored 

Men's Tennis

 

Player of the Week


Branden Metzler, Kalamazoo

Senior
Rockford, Ill.

• Aided Kalamazoo to an unbeaten week with two MIAA victories and a non-league win against No. 39 UW-Whitewater April 9

• At No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Alma April 8, did not drop a game to win 6-0, 6-0 and 8-0, respectively

• Tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against UW-Whitewater's Grant Thompson along with 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles

Women's Tennis

 

Player of the Week


Jessica Bouma, Calvin

Junior
Kalamazoo, Mich. 

• Went 6-0 on the week playing at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles

• Had two straight-set wins at No. 2 singles against Alma April 4 and Olivet April 8

• Moved up to No. 1 singles for a 6-0, 6-1 win against Spring Arbor April 3 to end two-match losing streak to the Cougars

Men's Outdoor Field

 

Athlete of the Week


Richard Annorat, Albion

Sophomore
Naples, Fla. 

• Posted second-best effort in the MIAA this season in the long jump with his winning effort of 6.74m at Marv Frye Invitational April 8

• Placed second in the triple jump (13.58m) at the meet, which ranks first in the MIAA

• Also finished fourth in the high jump (1.86m), sixth in the 110m hurdles (15.75) and ran a leg on fourth-place 4x100m relay team

Men's Outdoor Track

 

Athlete of the Week


Jordan Davis, Adrian

Junior
Ottawa Lake, Mich.

• Turned in an MIAA-best time of 14.71 in the 110m hurdles at the Huntington University Invitational April 8 to win the event

• Added wins in the 400m hurdles (57.39) and high jump (1.95m) in the six-team event to rank in the top four in the MIAA in each event

Women's Outdoor Field

 

Athlete of the Week


Erin Goggins, Alma

Sophomore
Hastings, Mich.

• Won the pole vault with a height of 3.05m at the NCAA Division II Ferris State Bulldog Open April 8 which ranks fourth in the MIAA

• Added a fifth-place throw in the javelin (27.17m) and ran the anchor of Alma's 4x400m relay team

• Had two standout performances in the hurdles at Marv Frye Invitational April 8, winning the 100m hurdles (15.57) and taking second in 400m hurdles (1:05.54) which ranks first in the MIAA and is a new Albion record
