MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for March 13

On Monday, the MIAA awarded eight weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, and softball.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for March 13 are:

• Charlie Haesler, Olivet (Men’s Lacrosse Defense)
• Gunnar Elder, Hope (Men’s Lacrosse Offense)
• Allie Ray, Alma (Women’s Lacrosse Defense)
• Rebecca Plantz, Trine (Women’s Lacrosse Offense)
• Erin DuRoss, Kalamazoo (Softball Pitcher)
• Cassie Young, Saint Mary’s (Softball Position)
• Eric Plaehn, Hope (Baseball Pitcher)
• Jordyn Finney, Albion (Baseball Position)


Men's Lacrosse

 

Defensive Player of the Week


Charlie Haesler, Olivet

Senior, LSM
Tecumseh, Mich. 

• In Olivet's 14-10 win over Augustana March 11, tallied nine ground balls and four caused turnovers

• Was integral in shutting down Augustana's top midfielder, who was averaging five points per game, to zero goals and no assists

Offensive Player of the Week


Gunnar Elder, Hope

Senior, A
East Grand Rapids, Mich. 

• Aided Hope to a 10-8 win over Elmhurst March 11 with five goals on six shots on goal

• Scored two goals while Hope was down a player

Allie Ray, Alma

• Posted a 57.9 save percentage with 11 saves in 9-8 overtime win against Concordia Chicago March 12

• Made 15 saves against Illinois Tech March 7

• Totalled seven goals and an assist in two games last week with a 66.7 shots on goal percentage

• Along with four goals and an assist against Concordia Chicago March 7, added six ground balls and one caused turnover

• Threw a four-hit seven-inning shutout at Blackburn March 10

• Struck out five in the win with no walks as no batter advanced past first base

Jordyn Finney, Albion

Freshman, C
Oxford, Mich.

• In five wins last week, went 8-of-18 with a hit in each game, including a double and a triple and seven RBI

• Went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in 4-3 win over Wittenberg March 7

• Defensively, had 34 putouts and eight assists behind the plate, with seven runners caught stealing

Pitcher of the Week


Erin DuRoss, Kalamazoo

Onsted, Mich.

• Fired 12 strikeouts with just one walk while scattering five hits in 6-1 win over Manchester March 7

• Aided her effort on the mound with a 3-for-4 game at the plate with four RBI

Softball

South Bend, Ind.

• Helped Saint Mary's start their season with two victories, going 6-for-8 at the plate with a double, home run, and three RBI

• In 5-0 win against nationally-ranked Manhattanville March 12, went 3-for-4 with a double, a run, two RBI and a stolen base 

• Followed with a 3-for-4 outing in 9-3 win over Western Connecticut State March 12 with three runs and a home run
