MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Jan. 9

On Monday, the MIAA awarded four weekly honors for standout performances in men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming and diving, and women's swimming and diving.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Jan. 9 are:

• Davonte Harris, Adrian (Men’s Basketball)
• Tara Padgett, Alma (Women’s Basketball)

• Sebastian Tostado, Albion (Men’s Swimming/Diving)
• Anna Serino, Calvin (Women’s Swimming/Diving)

Player of the Week


Davonte Harris, Adrian

Senior, G
Indianapolis, Ind.

• Scored 43 points in Adrian's contest with Alma Jan. 7, a total that is ninth-best in the NCAA this season and best in the MIAA in the 2016-17 season

• Averaged 35.0 points per game on the week while shooting 50 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three-point range

• Shot 6-of-7 from beyond the arc against Alma

• Averaged 18.0 points in two MIAA wins last week, including coming in as a reserve in Alma's win over Olivet Jan. 4

• Scored 18 points as a starter to lead Alma in their 84-41 win over Saint Mary's Jan. 7

• For the week, shot 55 percent from the field, including 54.5 percent from three point range; also averaged 6.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game

• Helped Albion defeat No. 31 Southwestern (Texas) Jan. 4

• Won the 200 free in 1:45.05, the best time in the event on the week for MIAA swimmers

• Added a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.86 and was part of Albion's top-time relay team in the 200 free relay

Grand Rapids, Mich. 

• Helped lift Calvin to come-from-behind win over Hope Jan. 7

• Won both the 200 free (1:58.63) and 500 free (5:18.26) while placing third in the 200 IM (2:17.10)

• Needing a 1-2 finish in the meet's final event, the 400 free relay, anchored Calvin's second-place team to seal the Knights' 150-146 win
