MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Dec. 5

On Monday, the MIAA awarded four weekly honors for standout performances in men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming and diving, and women's swimming and diving.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Dec. 5 are:

• Davonte Harris, Adrian (Men’s Basketball)
• Elizabeth Perkins, Hope (Women’s Basketball)

• Gerardo Huidobro, Albion (Men’s Swimming/Diving)
• Abby Van Harn, Calvin (Women’s Swimming/Diving)


Men's Basketball

 

Player of the Week


Davonte Harris, Adrian

Senior, G
Indianapolis, Ind.

• Averaged 24.0 points in two games last week, including game-tying high 17 points against NCAA Division I Akron Nov. 30

• Scored season-high 31 points in win over Case Western Reserve Dec. 3, shooting 60 percent from the field and three-point range

• Added two steals and three assists in win against Case

Elizabeth Perkins, Hope

Auburn, Ind.

• Averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds 1.0 blocks and 1.5 assists as a reserve in two MIAA wins last week

• Her 28 points against nationally-ranked Calvin Nov. 30 was tied for second-best in DeVos Fieldhouse history, shooting 10-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range

• In 89-44 win over Adrian Dec. 3, scored eight points to go with eight rebounds and two assists in just 16 minutes off the bench

• Posted two NCAA B cuts on the week at the Carthage College Winter Classic Dec. 2-3 while winning five individual events

• His times of 56.60 in the 100 breast and 2:03.81 in the 200 breast were both NCAA B Cut qualifying performances

• Also touched first in the 500 free (4:39.33), 200 fly (1:53.98) and 1650 free (16:37.46)

Abby Van Harn, Calvin

Grand Rapids, Mich. 

• Swam all three sprint free races at Calvin Winter Invitational Dec. 2-3, winning the 50 and 100 free and finishing second in 200 free

• Her winning times of 23.53 in the 50 free and 50.69 in the 100 free were NCAA B cut performances

• Despite her second-place finish in the 200 free, her time of 1:50.90 was also an NCAA B cut time
