MIAA Partners with RISE on Voter Engagement

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) is excited to announce its partnership with RISE in Fall 2023.

RISE is a distinguished national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eradicate racial discrimination, advocate for social justice, and foster improved race relations.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with RISE in advancing Voter Engagement throughout our MIAA Communities," commented MIAA Commissioner Chris Brown.  "RISE has consistently showcased an approach that encourages discussions on intricate issues while embracing diverse viewpoints—an approach exemplified by their extensive national partnerships.  The MIAA takes great pride in joining forces with RISE for this pivotal initiative."

The MIAA and RISE will join forces to inaugurate a voting kick-off event on October 8th, followed by an immersive, in-person, multi-week program with the following objectives:

  • Enlighten members of the MIAA community through RISE to Vote (RTV) tools and modules, with a focal point on the historical significance of exercising the right to vote and the process of voter registration.
  • Enable the MIAA to bolster its support for the local community by launching a comprehensive civic engagement strategy.
  • Provide participants with a secure and inclusive setting to delve into concepts related to diversity and inclusion. Empower them to become advocates for change, contributing to the enhancement of race relations while eliminating racial discrimination and social injustices.
  • Collaborate with the MIAA to host a civic engagement town hall event, intended to invigorate students and faculty members in their commitment to this initiative.
