Longtime MIAA Referee Jerry Hendrickson Passes Away

Jerry Hendrickson, a well-respected and longtime official for Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football games, passed away Dec. 26 at the age of 80.

Hendrickson, a 1959 graduate of Hope College, began his career as a football official in 1963. In 1972, Hendrickson began officiating MIAA football games, where his success led him eventually to a 16-year stint in the Big Ten. In all, Hendrickson's legacy as an official spanned 53 years and has been carried on by his sons; Hendrickson officiated MIAA football games with his sons, including during the 100th year of MIAA football in 1997.

Hendrickson was a three-year letter winner for Hope in football.
