FREELAND, Mich. – A busy Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule showcases four sports – basketball, swimming & diving, indoor track & field and tennis - close out their January slate of contests this Saturday.

All of the MIAA swimming and diving programs are in action in early afternoon. At 1 p.m. Alma hosts Hope and the nationally-ranked Calvin squads entertain Kalamazoo. An hour later Albion travels to Olivet for competition.

Women’s basketball gets underway at 1 p.m. when Saint Mary’s travels to Alma with each team seeking its second conference win of the year. Two hours later Trine tips off at Kalamazoo with one game separating the teams in the MIAA standings. In another 3 p.m. matchup fifth-place Albion treks to Olivet; the Comets are currently tied for third in the conference.

The ranked women’s basketball squads of the MIAA also tip off at 3 p.m. No. 4 Hope looks to remain undefeated on the year as the Flying Dutch invade Adrian; the Bulldogs are currently tied for third in the league. At the same time, No. 20 Calvin will tip off a non-conference game with Great Lakes Christian.

A trio of men’s basketball games featuring teams that received a vote in the latest national poll will also tip at 3 p.m. No. 8 Hope, currently in second place in the MIAA, travels to third-place Albion. Meanwhile, MIAA leader No. 15 Alma welcomes Kalamazoo; the Hornets are seeking their first conference victory of the season. Calvin visits Trine, who received votes in the latest poll, in a battle of 3-4 teams in the league standings.

Capping off the night in men’s basketball, Adrian takes on Olivet at 7:30 p.m. Just one game separates the teams in their conference records.

MIAA indoor track and field squads will be in action Saturday at meets held at both Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State. The weekend track schedule kicked off Friday night at the Trine Invitational.

A couple of women’s tennis matches are slated for the weekend as preseason No. 38 Kalamazoo faces Baldwin Wallace in a non-league contest. Later in the day Baldwin Wallace serves against Albion for another non-conference battle.
