Alma’s Valasek and Adrian’s Killinger Garner Baseball Player of the Week Honors

Alex Valasek of Alma and Brian Killinger of Adrian garnered Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Baseball Player of the Week honors on Monday for games through May 1.

Valasek, a junior from Saginaw, earned pitcher of the week honors after hurling a complete-game one-hitter in his only outing of the week. He secured the Scots’ 2-0 victory against Kalamazoo on Saturday by registering five strikeouts. Valasek allowed just four base runners on one hit and four walks to pick up his sixth win of the season.

Killinger, a junior from Grand Rapids, won position player laurels by making the most of his opportunities at the plate while hitting ninth in the Bulldog lineup. In three wins over Trine last weekend he went 6-of-8 with two extra base hits, a pair of runs batted in and three runs scored. Killinger ended the week with an impressive 1.125 slugging percentage and .778 on-base percentage to go along with his .750 clip at the dish. The second baseman also cleaned up in the field with five putouts and seven assists leading to a perfect fielding percentage.
