Calvin Women's Outdoor Track & Field Team Claims 27th-Straight MIAA Field Day Title

OLIVET, Mich. - The Calvin women’s outdoor track and field team won its 27th-straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship at the Field Day held at Olivet's Kolassa Track on Friday. 

With a two-day score of 268.5 points, Calvin finished ahead of second-place Hope at 178.5 points. The title win streak is the longest in MIAA women's athletics history. The Knights won four events during the two-day competition.

The Knights started the day taking the four best jumps in the triple jump. Jenna Dyksen won with a season-best jump of 11.23 meters. Madison Orth took second at 10.74 meters, Carissa Weis in third at 10.74 and Ayooluwa Ayoola in fourth place at 10.55 meters.

Calvin posted the two fastest times in the 400 meter hurdles as Dyksen won with a time of 1:03.09. Her first-place finish marked a career-best and is ranks No. 14 in NCAA Division III. Kally Verkaik had a career-best time in second place at 1:03.99.

The Knights’ Lauren Strohbehn was victorious in the 5000 meter run, clocking in at 17:26.41. 

Hope took home five titles on the final day of competition.

The Flying Dutch 4x400 meter relay squad of Jane Pearson, Rachael Webb, Emma Ropski and Rachel Satkiewicz placed first in the final race of the day, crossing the finish in 3:58.07. 

Satkiewicz also claimed the 400 meter run title, posting a time of 57.55. Meanwhile, Webb clocked a winning time in the 800 meters of 2:14.84. Pearson heaved a winning javelin toss of 126-6 for a repeat title.

Hope’ s Erin Herrmann recorded an MIAA-record time of 10:44.31 to repeat as the 3,000-meter steeplechase champion. 

Adrian collected four titles on Friday. Rachel Dolphin took the crown for the 100-meter dash (12.43) and the 200-meter dash (25.91). Takiyah Smith won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.88 to earn her second straight MIAA championship in that event.

The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Alonia Slappy, Smith, Natalie Modes and Dolphin finished first with a time of 49.08, marking the second consecutive year Adrian finished first in the event.

Alma’s Kaitlyn Arnold took first in the women's 1500 meter run, finishing with a time 4:40.34. 

Trine’s Kara Eck Kara Eck set an MIAA record to claim her second conference title in as many days. She threw a distance of 47-3.75 inches to win the shot put and narrowly break the old meet record. Eck's throw ranked as second-best in the nation at the conclusion of the meet.
