Hope Captures 2018-19 MIAA Commissioner's Cup

FREELAND, Mich. - With seven Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships during the 2018-19 academic year, including five in women's sports, Hope College is the 2018-19 MIAA Commissioner's Cup winner, supplanting Calvin and ending a four-year drought.

Hope amassed 130 points to earn the program's first MIAA Commissioner's Cup since the 2013-14 academic year and 37th overall.

Hope was the women's all-sport champion with 69 points, aided by MIAA titles in cross country and soccer in the fall, swimming and diving in the winter, and tennis and outdoor track and field in the spring; coupled with second-place finishes in golf, volleyball, basketball, and indoor track and field, Hope was three points off a perfect women's sports score.

Hope did not finish lower than fourth in any men's sport, with MIAA titles in golf and lacrosse on the way to a third-place total of 61 points.

Calvin placed second overall with 124 points, including an MIAA-best 65 points in men's sports to capture the men's all-sport title. Trine finished third overall with 116.5 points, while Albion was a close fourth with 113 points.

The MIAA Commissioner's Cup is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league's 23 sports; each school counts its top eight finishes by gender.
