FREELAND, Mich. (MIAA) – A 40-year veteran of baseball umpiring and a 25-year veteran as a supervisor of officials, Bruce Doane, Jr. has been retained by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association to serve as the league's Baseball Umpire Supervisor, MIAA Commissioner Penny Allen-Cook announced today.

"Bruce comes to us with over two decades of baseball umpire assigning along with over 40 years as a baseball umpire," Allen-Cook said. "He is familiar with our league philosophy, coaches and institutions. We are excited to have him on board at the MIAA. He has large shoes to fill with the retirement of long time baseball supervisor, Rich Fetcheit, but we are confident he will take over the reigns and be an outstanding addition to our officials of supervisors roster."

Doane currently serves as the Supervisor of Umpires for NCAA Division II's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Michigan Junior College Athletic Association at the junior college level, the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference and Crossroads League at the NAIA level, and the West Michigan Umpires Association at the high school level. 

"I am excited to be a part of the MIAA in this new chapter of my umpring career," Doane said.

Doane has umpired at the collegiate and professional levels throughout his storied professional career, with highlights including umpiring in 10 conference tournaments at the NCAA Division I level, including both the Big Ten and the Mid-American Conference. Doane has also worked four NAIA World Series.

In giving back to the game of baseball, Doane is the camp director of three camps, including a two-man invitation only camp and a three-man invitation only camp held in Grand Rapids, Mich. A true student of the game, Doane's experience includes attending the Kinnamon, Wendelstedt, and Brinkman Umpire Schools.
