Walton Named Recipient of NADIIIAA Administrator Award

The National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) has named Albion College Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Women's Administrator Melissa Walton as the recipient of the Transitioning Athletic Administrator Award.

The NADIIIAA Transitioning Athletic Administrator Award is presented to a professional who has transitioned from coaching or other professional duties to athletic administration and who has seven or fewer year's cumulative experience as a titled athletics administrator at the Division III level. The award also recognizes involvement and leadership roles on an institution campus or in a conference office.

Walton, who served as coach of the Britons volleyball program from 2006-2011, now manages day-to-day operations of 10 varsity sports, the athletic training program, advises the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and coordinates game management operations for all varsity sports.

Under her guidance, NADIIIAA has included Albion's SAAC as one of the honorable mention recipients in the array of projects category for the JOSTENS Community Service Awards and the organization has been recognized on the local level, as well.

She has also served the campus community on committees including the Strategic Planning Committee, President's Advisory Committee on Intercultural Affairs, Diversity Task Force, Inclusion and Respect Leadership team, and the Title IX Administration Team.

Walton's professional development has included earning certifications as a Civil Rights Investigator Level Two, DiSC Behavioral Assessment Facilitator, and Title IX Athletics Self Evaluation.

"This is a tremendous honor for Melissa and one that is well deserved," Athletic Director Matt Arend said. "Over the past six years, Melissa has taken every opportunity to grow and learn as an athletic administrator. She is a fantastic asset for both the athletic department and the College as a whole. All of us associated with Albion College Athletics are extremely proud of Melissa and congratulate her on winning this prestigious award."
