Six MIAA Student-Athletes Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District® At-Large Teams

FREELAND, Mich. -- Six student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were named to Academic All-District® At-Large Teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on July 8.

On the men's side, lacrosse player Luke Elder and diver Kamaron Wilcox represent both Hope College and the league.  The four women who were recognized include Calvin swimmer Hannah Chao, Calvin diver Hannabeth Magnussen, Hope swimmer Emma Schaefer, and Kalamazoo lacrosse player Rachel Madar.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early August.

Senior Luke Elder, who graduated in May with a degree in Communications, boasts a grade point average of 3.79.  Elder assisted the Flying Dutchmen to the MIAA Tournament champion title and to the second round of the NCAA DIII Tournament for the first time.  Elder received USILA Scholar All-American honors this year and was previously named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll in 2019.

Junior Kamaron Wilcox earned a 3.97 GPA at Hope.  The Mathematics/Physics major was named co-MIAA Most Valuable Diver this season after winning the three-meter dive at the conference meet.  Wilcox is a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll honoree.
