Calvin Sweeps MIAA Cross Country Championships

Calvin continued its domination of MIAA men's and women's cross country Saturday as the Knights captured both conference championships at the Gainey Athletic Complex.

In the women's  6-kilometer race, Calvin placed five runners among the top nine finishers as the Knights won their third consecutive MIAA championship, finishing the meet with a team score of 27 points. Knights' sophomore Cassie Vince led the way as she reached the tape first in 21:10.

Hope finished second, followed by Albion and Alma.

The Knights' two championships on Saturday now make head coach Brian Diemer the winningest coach, in terms of MIAA championships, in league history. Diemer has coached Calvin to 36 conference championships since 1986 - 28 in men's cross country and eight in women's cross country. He moves past former Kalamazoo men's tennis coach George Acker, who led the Hornets to 35 conference titles from 1959-1993.
