USTFCCCA Recognizes MIAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes With 22 All-Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- On May 17, women's outdoor track and field student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) received a total of 22 All-Region accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Assocation (USTFCCCA).

Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.

Hope College was represented by eight student-athletes on the All-Region list, followed by Calvin University with three honorees.  Both Adrian College and Albion College have two student-athletes on the All-Region list, while one athlete from Trine University was recognized.

Four MIAA student-athletes earned regional recognition in at least two different events, including Albion's Avery Campbell, Calvin's Jenna Allman, and Hope's Rebecca Markham and Sara Schermerhorn.

Campbell earned All-Region nods for the 100m dash and the 200m dash.  At the 2024 MIAA Championships, Campbell set new conference records in both events.  Both her times of 11.77 in the 100m dash and 24.09 in the 200m dash are sixth in the nation.

Allman received regional recognition for both the steeplechase and the 5,00m run.  She won both events at the conference meet after clocking in at 10:52.35 in the steeplechase and 17:32.58 in the 5,000m run.  Her season-best steeplechase performance of 10:38.38 at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet is ranked ninth in the country.

Markham was named to the All-Region Team in the 5,000m run and the 10,000m run after assisting the Flying Dutch to their sixth-straight league championship.  She won the 10,000m run at the outdoor meet after clocking in at 40:21.10.  Her season-best time of 35:11.54 from the WashU Distance Carnival is ranked eleventh in Division III and is the top regional performance.  Additionally, Markham's time of 16:46.29 in the 5,000m run is seventeenth in the nation.

Schermerhorn is a 2024 All-Region honoree in the 100m dash, the 200m dash, and the 400m dash, as well as Hope's 4x400m relay.  At the MIAA Championships this year, Schermerhorn notched a victory in the 400m dash with a time of 58.07 and competed in the winning 4x100m relay (48.18) and 4x400m relay (3:57.40).  Schermerhorn's regional-best performance of 24.01 from the GVSU Al Owens Classic is tied-for-third in the country, while her season-best time of 56.00 in the 400m dash from the same meet is 25th in Division III.  Additionally, Schermerhorn's 100m dash time of 11.86 from the conference meet is fourteenth in the nation while Hope's 4x400m relay time of 3:49.28 from the Augustana Midwest Final Qualifier is eighteenth.

Campbell, Allman, Markham, and Schermerhorn all qualified for the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 23-25 at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Campbell will compete in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash.  Schermerhorn will also run in the 200m dash, along with the 400m dash and the 4x400m relay with All-Region teammates Catherine Leahy, Erin Moran, and Jasmine Zimmerman.  Allman punched her ticket into the steeplechase and Markham will participate in both the 5,000m run and the 10,000m run.  Allman will be joined by her All-Region teammate Sophie Bull in the steeplechase national event.
