Five MIAA Competitors Qualify for NCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships

On Sunday (March 3), the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced the participants in the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships. 

Five individuals from four MIAA women's indoor track & field programs have been selected to compete at the NCAAs. The championships will be held March 8-9 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts, with the University of Massachusetts, Boston serving as host. 

Albion's Cassie Vince, who had the second-fastest in-season times nationally for three distance running events, will compete in the 5K at the NCAAs. Teammate ShaQuoria Thompson will also represent the Britons in the shot put.

Calvin's Katie Diekema will compete in the 1-Mile run after posting the fourth-fastest time in NCAA Division III in the event and third-fastest among accepted entries.

Olivet's Lillian Albaugh will compete in the shot put to give the MIAA two competitors in the event. To note, both Albaugh and Albion's Thompson are first-year competitors.

Trine's Evonne Bultemeyer, who was named the MIAA Most Valuable Track Performer at the conference meet Feb. 23, will race the 1-mile run at the national championship.

For each men’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women’s individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
