Adrian
Adrian gave No. 25-ranked Olivet a tough test on the road before losing 21-12…the Bulldogs have a 9-5 dual-match record—already the most in the modern era in program history…AC dropped a couple decisions to the Comets by a combined three points… sophomore Isaiah Espinoza debuted in the D3wrestle.com national rankings at No. 5 for 285 pounds last week… junior Devon Pingel—the nationally-ranked wrestler at 197 by D3wrestle.com (No. 7), Intermat (No. 8) and National Wrestling Coaches' Association (No. 8)-- outdistanced Trevor Piggott, 11-4, who is listed as a D3wrestle.com national rankings "contender”… Espinoza leads Adrian with a 23-1 record on the season and 10 pins…Pingel also has 10 pins among a 21-2 mark…Junior Noah Nieman (149) is 18-4…the Bulldogs have a big match on Thursday against Alma—which returns two All-Americans—at home.
Alma
The Scots went 1-2 at the national duals this weekend. The Scots fell to No. 14 New York University, 45-10, and No. 13 Ithaca College, 35-6. They bounced back to defeat Washington & Jefferson University, 25-21. Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich.) went 3-0, including a victory against No. 10 Ben Brisman for Ithaca College. Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich.) went 2-1 on the weekend. Trent Lashuay (Saint Johns, Mich.) had the 11th fastest technical fall of the duals. He also finished tied for 10th in most single match points.
No. 25 Olivet
Olivet began defense of its MIAA championship with a 21-12 win at home against Adrian. The Comets won 6-of-10 bouts, with junior Cameron Mahlich (MD 18-7), Cole Hersch (MD 15-6) and Nicholas Worden (MD 12-3) scoring bonus point wins. Olivet then posted a 3-2 record at the 2020 NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals. The Comets defeated Roger Williams (R.I.), 27-16, Wis.-Oshkosh, 23-13, and Luther (Iowa), 26-18, but fell to No. 1-ranked Augsburg (Minn.), 43-3, and No. 6-ranked Coe (Iowa), 25-12. At 157 pounds, Hersch posted a 4-0 record, with two technical falls (18-1 and 18-0) and two decision victories (3-2 and 16-14) over nationally-ranked wrestlers. At 125 pounds, junior Cameron Mahlich and at 133 pounds, sophomore Reese Wallis both had a 3-1 record. The Comets are on the road Thursday to face Trine (Ind.) at 7 p.m.

Lost to Alma, 42-9, in its only match of the week...Chase Gibson and Matthew Abraham both won their individual matchups...Gibson won his 197-pound match by a 10-5 decision...Abraham recorded a pin in the 285-pound bout in a time of 1:25.
