Around the MIAA

Adrian

Adrian upset NAIA No. 12-ranked Lourdes at home, 30-17, on Dec. 5 and finished in sixth place of 13 schools (105.5 points) at the Ohio Northern Invitational two days later…against the Gray Wolves, Adrian trailed 17-6 before reeling off five-straight wins—three via pin—to take the match…highlights included extending a six-match winning streak, which is believed to be the longest in program history since the 1969-70 squad also won six-straight; first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent; eight wins (8-2) ties modern school record--believed to be the most since the 1976-77 squad that finished 8-7…freshman Kyle Emery's earned a pin in 1:24 at 184 pounds to give AC the lead for good at 21-17…at ONU, Adrian had runner-up finishes at 197 with juniors Devon Pingel and 149 with Noah Nieman, both finishing the day with 4-1 records…the Bulldogs also had three semifinalists in junior Donald Moses (197), sophomore Elijah Sanchez (133) and freshman Dylan Wellbaum ( 174)…the ‘Dogs take the mat again on Saturday for the Kalahari Resorts Duals hosted by Heidelberg University in Sandusky, Ohio, where the Bulldogs will take on nationally-ranked Mount Union (9 a.m.), the host Student Princes (10:30 a.m.) and another Top-25 team in Baldwin Wallace (noon). The AC junior varsity squad will face HU at 1:30 p.m.


Alma

The Scots placed fifth at the Ohio Northern Invitational. Five Scots placed in their respective weight classes. Trent Lashuay (Saint Johns, Mich.) won the 133 weight class while Austin Wieczorek (Kentwood, Mich.) and Jacob Ransom (Traverse City, Mich.) finished third in the 125 and heavyweight, respectively. Carter Hankins (Hartland, Mich.) finished fourth in the 141 weight class and Jayce Kuehlein (St. Louis, Mich.) placed sixth. Lashuay scored the most points in a match at the invitational, with 23, and the most total match points, with 73. Wieczorek and Lashuay both won by technical fall twice. Hankins pinned his opponent three times.


No. 25 Olivet

Olivet had at least one wrestler place in the top 6 of each weight class to finish in second-place at the 45th Annual North Central College Invitational. The Comets totaled 139.5 points to finish just behind No. 3-ranked Augsburg (Minn.) and just ahead of No. 10-ranked North Central. Winning individual titles were junior Cole Hersch at 157 pounds, junior Trevor Piggott at 197 pounds and sophomore Dominick Wilson at 285 pounds. Runner-up performances were by freshman Zach Wells at 157 pounds and sophomore Owen Miller at 285 pounds. Finishing in third were sophomore Reese Wallis at 141 pounds and senior Drew Mandell at 149 pounds.


Trine

Competed in the ONU Invitational and placed ninth of 13 teams...Luke Carver had the top finish of third place at 197 pounds with a 4-1 mark that included a pin and a pair of tech falls.
