Junior Noah Nieman won his second career MIAA Wrestler of the Week award when he became the conference's first honoree of 2019-20…Nieman defeated a 2018 JuCo All-American in the 149-pound championship en route to a 4-0 record during the Adrian Bulldogs Invitational, where the host team finished as the runner-up to NCAA Division III nationally No. 5-ranked Mount Union…the Bulldogs scored 187.5 points—trailing the Purple Raiders by only 10 points—to set a school record for points in a tournament and placed 19 student-athletes including three champions and three runners-up…junior Devon Pingel (197, 4-0) and sophomore Isaiah Espinoza (285, 5-0) also won title bouts…the Bulldogs travel to Alliance, Ohio, this Saturday for the Mount Union Invitational which will by populated by numerous Division II scholarship programs.
No. 14 Alma
Alma will begin the 2019-20 season Wednesday, Nov. 6 at home against Davenport University.
Olivet
Olivet opened its 2019-20 season with a 40-10 win at Manchester (Ind.) University. The Comets won 8-of-10 bouts, scoring bonus points in seven wins. The bonus point wins were by junior Cameron Mahlich at 125 points (forfeit), sophomore Reese Wallis at 133 pounds (pin, 6:01), sophomore Hunter Murphy at 149 pounds (pin, 6:12), junior Dylan Briggs at 165 pounds (14-4), senior Kamyab Kamali at 184 pounds (pin, 5:17), sophomore Hiram Robinson at 197 pounds (13-2) and junior Trevor Piggott at 285 pounds (17-2).
Trine
The Trine University wrestling team will begin the 2019-20 season Friday, Nov. 8 at the two-day Muskegon CC Duals.
