Around the MIAA

Adrian

Dylan Steward's third-place finish led the Adrian College men's wrestling team at the University of Mount Union Invitational on Saturday. Steward's showing at 157 pounds led a total of five placers for the Bulldogs. Steward rattled off an 8-1 win and a 12-6 victory before he was pinned in the semifinals. He would come back to win two more matches on the consolation side of the bracket to earn third.


Alma

The Scots finished fourth out of 14 teams at the Trine Invitational Saturday (Nov. 10). Junior Zachary Cooper (Chippewa Hills, Mich./Whitehall) led the charge by winning the 149 weight class. Sophomore Chase Beecher (Clio, Mich./Clio) took home third place while junior Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) earned fifth in their respective classes.


Olivet

Led by Owen Miller's first-place performance in the 285-pound bracket, the Olivet College wrestling team finished in second place at the 14-team Trine University Invitaitonal. Overall, the Comets had 12 wrestlers finish in the top six to total 127 points. Runner-up finishes were by Peter Deaton at 133 pounds and Cole Hersch at 157 pounds. Olivet welcomes 10 other schools to The Cutler Event Center on Saturday for the 2018 Comet Duals.


Trine

The Trine University wrestling team finished eighth at the Trine Invitational at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. Trine ended the event with 62 points to finish eighth of 13 teams. North Central (Ill.) College finished first with 149.5 points and was followed by Olivet College in second with 127 points.
