Hope College's Kenedy Schoonveld has been selected as one of 11 finalists for the Jostens Trophy given to the most outstanding women's NCAA Division III basketball player of the year.

The fifth-year senior from Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) has helped the Flying Dutch reach the Division III semifinals for the fourth time in team history and the first time since 2010.

Created by the Rotary Club of Salem, Va., and sponsored by Jostens, Inc, the award focuses on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities.

The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete. The 2022 season marks the 24th time the Jostens Trophy honors will be awarded.

The 11 women's finalists and 11 men's finalists will be reviewed by the Jostens Trophy National Selection Committee. The 27-person committee is composed of men and women from across the country. The committee features current and former athletic administrators and head coaches, past Jostens Trophy recipients, and select members of the Division III media.

The committee will spend the next two weeks reviewing the nominees with the aim of announcing the two winners on Thursday, March 24.

Schoonveld is averaging a team-high 11.2 points for the Flying Dutch in 31 games this season, including 17.8 points over four NCAA Tournament games.

Hope (30-1) will play Trine University (28-3) in the national semifinals on Thursday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The championship game is on Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m.

Schoonveld is ranked third all-time in scoring at Hope with 1,459 points in 136 games.
