NR/RV Albion (15-3, 7-2)

Albion capped a 2-0 week with an 89-41 win over Saint Mary's Jan. 25. Both Evelyn Wischmeyer and Rain Hinton reached the 20-point mark in the game, while Cerica Finjap gathered 10 rebounds for a game-high. On Wednesday, Albion fended off a feisty Calvin squad to tally a 77-69 win. Evelyn Wischmeyer led all scorers with 23 points, with 15 points in the second half. The Britons take the two-game winning streak into a critical contest at home with Hope Jan. 29.

Alma (8-10, 3-6)

Alma dropped Adrian 67-56 Jan. 25 in an even offensive performance. Sophomore Stasha Warchock (Marquette, Mich.) scored a team-high 11 points while junior Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich.), freshman Jackie Jarvis (Fowlerville, Mich.) and junior Emily Eldridge (Battle Creek, Mich.) each added 10.


Calvin (11-7, 5-4)

Calvin women’s basketball went 0-1 this past as they fell to Albion at home with a score of 77-69. Sophomore Gabby Timmer finished the game with 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists while teammate Stephanie Coors had 16 points, five rebounds and six assists. Calvin now falls to 11-7 on the season and are 5-4 in the MIAA.


No. 3/3 Hope (18-0, 9-0)

The Flying Dutch helped head coach Brian Morehouse become the fastest NCAA basketball coach, women's or men's, to reach 600 career wins last week with a 2-0 record. Hope defeated Alma, 71-33, in its Purple Community game benefitting Van Andel Institute, then won at Olivet, 76-27. Morehouse, who is in his 24th season, has a career record is 600-90. Lauren Newman (Flushing, Mich.) score a season-high 15 points against Olivet.


Kalamazoo (4-14, 2-7)

Kalamazoo dropped both of its games during the week beginning with a 71-58 loss at Saint Mary's and ending with a 66-39 loss at home against Trine. Isabelle Clark led the way for Kalamazoo as she posted games of 17 points, seven rebounds, and two assists and 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Kaytlyn Tidey also had a big week for the Hornets as she tallied 27 total points. Kalamazoo is off on Wednesday evening and travels to Hope College for a 3 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Feb. 1.


Olivet (4-14, 1-8)

Olivet fell to No. 3-ranked Hope, 76-27, in its only game last week. Freshman Hannah Brown and senior Tammy Lee each scored seven points. Senior Jazmin Hildebrand came off the bench to grab a team-best six rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.


Saint Mary's (7-11, 4-5)

The Belles posted a 1-1 record on the week with a 71-58 home victory over Kalamazoo and an 89-41 setback on the road to an Albion side which is receiving votes in the WBCA Division III Top 25 Poll. Giavanna Paradiso scored 16 points in the first half against Kalamazoo to become the program's 14th player all-time to amass 1,000 career points. Additionally, she is just the fourth player in Saint Mary's basketball history to reach 1,000 points in her junior season and is the second-fastest player (67 games) to 1,000 points since Saint Mary's became an NCAA member in the 1989-90 academic year. Paradiso led all players in both scoring and rebounds with 23 points and 11 boards as she collected her third double-double of the season. Jade Mosier narrowly missed out on a double-double of her own with 17 points and nine rebounds. Against Albion, Paradiso led the Belles with 16 points and nine rebounds with a game-high four steals. Hannah Cavanaugh added six points with two steals.


NR/RV Trine (14-4, 8-1)

Defeated Adrian and Kalamazoo to increase Trine's current win streak to six games....the Thunder have also won 12 of their last 14 games...Shay Herbert led the team by averaging a double-double for the week with 12.0 ppg and 10.5 rpg...Her double-doubles against Adrian and Kalamazoo were her first of her career...She also had three blocked shots and three steals.
