Around the MIAA
Adrian (5-8, 0-5)
Adrian has its last non-conference game on Wednesday against Mount Mary, a member of the NACC...The Bulldogs seek to stop a five-game losing streak…Sha'Trice Graves posted a fourth double-double (16 points, game-high 16 rebounds) of the season in a 65-47 home loss to Albion…Graves also had 14 points and had a season-high six blocked shots, and sophomore newcomer Chelsea Palmer shined with eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in a 63-62 road loss at Kalamazoo…Rachel Bucher match a season high of six steals in that contest…on the season, Graves is first in the MIAA with 9.6 rebounds per game and second with 31 blocks…Bucher is 10th with 22 steals…Graves has 135 blocks for a 58-game career.
T-24/RV Albion (12-2, 4-1)
Alma (7-8, 2-4)
Alma fell 66-48 to Calvin last Wednesday (Jan. 8), then 56-38 to Trine on Sunday (Jan. 12). Sophomore Oretha Humphries (Detroit, Mich.) and junior Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich.) led the Scots in each game: Humphries with 11 points against Calvin and Brandt with 13 against Trine. Overall, Alma struggled from the field, shooting 32 percent. Though it may come as no surprise, as both Calvin and Trine are two of the top three teams in the MIAA in defensive field goal percentage, holding their opponents to under 35 percent.

No. 3/3 Hope (14-0, 5-0)
By almost keeping its opponent scoreless in the third quarter, as well as by going on a 21-0 run in a 10-minute timeframe over the first and second quarters, Hope cruised to a 77-37 win at Kalamazoo Wednesday. Receiving first-place votes in both the WBCA and D3hoops.com poll, the Flying Dutch remain undefeated with a 14-0 overall record. They are 5-0 in the MIAA. Guards Kenedy Schoonveld (Zeeland, Mich.) and Claire Baguley (Ada, Mich.) led with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Kalamazoo (3-11, 1-4)
Kalamazoo split its games last week as it began with a 77-37 loss at home to Hope before knocking off Adrian 63-62. Kaytlyn Tidey led the Hornets in scoring during both games as the sophomore tallied 32 points, eight rebounds, and six assists throughout the week. Isabelle Clark added 30 points during the week to go along with eight rebounds and three steals. In the win over Adrian, Georgie Andrews gave Kalamazoo a spark on the defensive end with six steals while tallying five points and nine rebounds. The Hornets continue MIAA play this week with games at Olivet Wednesday before hosting Calvin on Saturday.
Olivet (4-11, 1-5)
Olivet suffered two road last week -- 79-40 to Trine and 98-70 to Albion. Junior Fayth Talbert and freshman Zara Weber each nine points against Trine. Talbert grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Against Albion, freshman Hannah Brown scored a team-high 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting, including 6-of-7 from behind the three-point arc. The Comets return to action Wednesday when they host Kalamazoo at 7:30 p.m. Fans are reminded that all remaining home basketball games this season will be played at the Upton Center Gymnasium.
Saint Mary's (6-8, 3-2)
The Belles had a tough time getting shots to fall while host Calvin hit 50 percent of the shots they took over the first half to build an insurmountable lead as Saint Mary's fell 65-43 to the host Knights on Saturday. Giavanna Paradiso led the Belles with 15 points and added five rebounds as Saint Mary's out-rebounded the Knights by a 44-40 margin. Bella Dugas and Hannah Cavanaugh each chipped in seven points. Dugas pulled down seven boards as Cavanaugh added three assists.
Trine (10-4, 4-1)
Defeated Olivet (79-40) and Alma (56-38) to go 2-0 for the week...Tara Bieniewicz averaged 13.0 ppg to lead the Thunder and shot 58.8 percent from the field...also had two assists, a blocked shot and a steal.
