Hope 59, Trine 55

The Hope women's basketball team kept their unbeaten streak intact, but not without a feisty effort from Trine Saturday evening in the championship game of the 2020 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament at DeVos Fieldhouse. Hope prevailed, 59-55, to earn the MIAA's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

Hope never led by more than seven, while Trine once had a five-point advantage on the No. 2 ranked Hope side. In a game similar to earlier season matchups between NCAA Division III's top two defenses, both teams played close throughout.

Hope's Ashleigh Thomas scored a game-best 16 points, including seven points in the second quarter alone, while adding six rebounds and two steals to pace the Flying Dutch. Kenedy Schoonveld added 15 points while Olivia Voskuil and Lauren Newman added eight points apiece.

Trine was led offensively by a pair of 14-point efforts by Tara Bieniewicz and Katy Steers; 10 of Steers' points came at the free throw line.
