Among the highlights from the 2016-17 season:
- Three teams from the MIAA - Calvin, Hope, and Trine - advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament, marking the first time since 1999 that three teams represented the conference in the national championship.
- Hope advanced to the Sweet 16 after knocking off two-time defending national champions Thomas More in the Second Round. Trine, making their first-ever appearance in the national tournament, won their first game.
- Trine won their first-ever MIAA regular season and tournament titles. In the regular season finale, the Thunder defeated Hope in Holland, Mich., to earn the right to host the 2017 MIAA Tournament. Trine then defeated Calvin, 49-42, in the title game for the automatic berth to the NCAAs.
