Trine Softball Claims 2022 MIAA Regular-Season Championship

FREELAND, Mich. -- The Trine softball team earned the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) championship title after finishing the 2022 regular season with a record of 14-2.  This is the 11th MIAA title in program history for the Thunder.

Trine clinched the title after sweeping the doubleheader versus Hope 8-4 and 4-1 on April 30.  Junior Ellie Trine led the Thunder with a batting average of .416 throughout league play, 47 hits, and 35 runs.

The Thunder will compete as the No. 1 seed in the 2022 MIAA Softball Tournament, which is slated for May 5-6.

Joining Trine in the four-team MIAA Tournament are second-seeded Hope (13-3), third-seeded Calvin (12-4), and fourth-seeded Alma (12-4).  Calvin wins the tiebreaker with Alma based on win/loss records against the same league opponent, starting with the highest-ranked team and proceeding downward in rank order.  Calvin split with Trine, while Alma had two losses against the Thunder.

Trine will face No. 4 Alma at 11:00 a.m. on May 5, followed by a 1:00 p.m. start between No. 2 Hope and No. 3 Calvin.  For further information, visit the MIAA Softball Tournament Central.
