
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Twelve individuals and all eight men's cross country teams from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with academic honors on Thursday, February 1.
Team awards were given to all eight MIAA men's cross country programs: Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College, Calvin University, Hope College, Kalamazoo College, Olivet College, and Trine University. The Scots led the league with a grade-point average of 3.5.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.
Additionally, the MIAA was represented by twelve men's cross country individuals on the 2023 NCAA DIII All-Academic Athletes list.
Overall, there were 320 men from 119 different institutions who were named All-Academic Athletes for their efforts during the 2022 season. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Both Calvin and Hope had four student-athletes on the Men's All-Academic list. Trine was represented by three honorees while one Adrian student-athlete earned All-Academic status from the USTFCCCA.
