Around the MIAA
Adrian
The Adrian College Bulldogs competed at the Tiffin Open over the weekend. Daz Lawrence and Nicholas Jackson were named MIAA Men's Field Athletes of the Week. The two tied for the high jump at 2.0m which ranks 14th nationally and first in the MIAA.
Albion
Alma
Twenty-eight Scots set new collegiate PRs as the track and field team competed in the SVSU Doug Hansen Open last week. Senior Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich.) ran the 60 meter hurdles in 8.77, his best time in nearly two years. Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich.) finished eighth in the men's 3000 meter run with a time of 9:20.85.
Calvin
The Calvin men's track and field team opened up its indoor schedule this past Friday at the Bill Clinger Classic at Grand Valley State University. The Knights had a number of standout performances. In the 3,000 meter run, junior Jonathan Ellis took 11th in a time of 8:37.01. That time ranks 24th on the NCAA III Indoor Performance list. Senior Caleb Ferguson was 12th in 8:37.05 that currently ranks 25th on the national list. Senior Jonathan Walt opened his final indoor campaign by placing seventh in the pole vault with a height of 14-1 3/4. His vault currently ranks 34th on the Division III performance list. In the long jump, senior Nathan Van Whye was 11th with a jump of 20-7 1/4. In the weight throw invitational heat, junior Bryce Reynolds was ninth with a throw of 49-7 1/4. Calvin is back in action on February 1 when it competes at the Mike Lints Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State.
Hope
Josh Izenbart finished in the top 10 in two events for the Hope College indoor men's track and field team at the Grand Valley State University Bill Clinger Classic on Friday. The senior from Glenwood, Illinois took seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.90 meters (6 feet, 2 ¾ inches). Izenbart also recorded a 10th-place, 60-meter hurdle run of 8.72 seconds. Sophomore Nick Hoffman (Holland, Mich.) posted a 12th-place, 1-mile run of 4:20.32 and a 14th-place, 800-meter time of 1:59.11. Freshman Zachary Elmore (Cadillac, Mich.) was 17th in the pole vault after clearing 3.91 meters (12-10).
Olivet
Olivet was scheduled to open its season Jan. 18 at the Trine University Don & Riley Zimmer Classic but inclement weather cancelled the meet. Olivet will now compete for the first time this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25, at the Jet's Pizza Invitational, hosted by Saginaw Valley State University.
