HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2024 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's tennis regular season, eight head coaches from the MIAA's member institutions that sponsor men's tennis voted on All-MIAA awards.
Kalamazoo College senior Gabe Vidinas was selected the MIAA Most Valuable Player for the second-consecutive season after leading the Hornets to a share of the regular-season title with a 6-1 record. Vidinas concluded the 2024 campaign with an unblemished mark at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in conference play (7-0). He is now a four-time All-MIAA honoree after receiving a spot on the First Team this season.
Justin Fay, a senior at Hope College, earned the Dr. Allen B. Stowe Memorial Award. This honor is in memory of Dr. Allen B. Stowe, longtime professor and tennis coach at Kalamazoo College, and takes the following into consideration: contributions to the team, leadership quality, and exemplification of ethical virtues and sportsmanship.
Over the last four years, Fay has worked his way from No. 3 doubles and No. 5-6 singles all the way up to No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles. Fay served as Team Captain this year and has created a culture where the tennis team has been the most involved in on-campus activities through the athletic department. He has been a great advocate for the tennis programs within the athletic department as well, voicing how the lives of tennis student-athletes can be improved in future years. Fay has never sought out conflict on the court and is extremely respected amongst the team. He is very poised and holds himself to a high standard when it comes to how he treats others.
Alma College's Caleb Schuring received the 2024 Dr. Lawrence Green Award. This award is a scholar-athlete award named in memory of Dr. Lawrence Green, longtime tennis coach at Hope College. In order to be considered, individuals must be a senior and must be a letter winner of the team for two years.
Schuring excels with a pristine 4.0 GPA in his pre-med studies, securing the top academic position in his cohort. Notably, he garnered departmental honors in Integrative Physiology and Health Science. His groundbreaking research on DEXA scan reliability in lumbar scoliosis patients marks the inaugural publication in the Journal of Integrative Physiology exploring patient positioning during scans.. Schuring has spent 80 hours helping as a secondary education student aid and serves as the SAAC President and community outreach coordinator at Alma. He is also a student representative on Alma's academic excellence committee where he worked with the Board of Trustees to provide the student perspective on changes within academic programs. Additionally, Schuring has served as an RA/student manager/tutor for calculus, anatomy and physiology, worked as a tennis coach at Todd Martin Youth Leadership, and spent time as an academic tutor and an after-school program worker.
Kalamazoo's Adnan Alousi and Trine University's Cole Goodman each earned All-MIAA accolades for the third time in their careers, while both Calvin University's Corwin Kim and Trine's Andrew Spirrison became two-time all-conference honorees.
