Calvin University freshman center Jalen Overway was named the Division III National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday.

Overway (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) won the honor after averaging 28.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in a pair of wins last week for the 13th-ranked Calvin men's basketball team.

In a 84-51 win at Kalamazoo on February 1, Overway made 12 of his 16 attempts from the field on the way to 27 points and 15 rebounds. He then backed that up with a 30-point, 10-rebound performance in a 92-74 win over Olivet on Saturday, February 4, in which he shot 11-18 from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line.

The USBWA honor is the second national award for Overway this season. He previously was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week in November. Overway was also named MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, an award he has now won twice this season.

Overway currently leads the Knights and the MIAA with an average of 19.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He also ranked 13th in NCAA Division III with 13 double-doubles in his 21 games this season.
