Calvin Men's Basketball Crowned the 2023 MIAA Regular-Season Champion

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced the Calvin University men's basketball team as the 2023 regular-season champion after earning a 13-1 mark in league contests, along with an overall record of 21-4.

This is the first league championship title for the Knights since 2015 and the first under head coach Bill Sall who is in his fourth season at the helm of the program.

Calvin secured the outright conference title following a 77-58 victory at Albion on Saturday, February 18.

Freshman center Jalen Overway led the Knights with 17.5 points per game, while junior forward Uchenna Egekeze averaged 12.4 points per contest.  Overway concluded the regular-season as the league leader with an .887 free-throw percentage (55-of-62), 10.6 rebounds per game, and 148 total rebounds (45 offensive and 103 defensive).

The six-team 2023 MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament will begin with the First Round games this Wednesday.  The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will serve as hosts, while the first- and second-seeded teams receive a bye.  Semifinals are slated for Friday, February 24, at the No. 1 seed's institution and the championship game will take place on Saturday, February 25.
