
FREELAND, Mich. -- Following the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's basketball regular season, the eight head coaches voted on All-MIAA awards.
Hope College junior guard Evan Thomas received the title of 2022 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading the Flying Dutchmen to the championship crown and the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Thomas concluded the regular season as the MIAA's leader in the following categories: games started (14), minutes (475), minutes per game (33.9), field goals (98), free throws (91), defensive rebounds (112), total boards (135), rebounds per contest (9.6), points (301), and points per game (21.5). Thomas earned MIAA Athlete of the Week accolades five times this season.
Thomas headlines an All-MIAA First Team that features three-time all-league honoree Cole Kleiver from Alma and two-time All-MIAA players Nick Bowman of Trine and Cortez Garland of Albion. Also receiving a spot on the First Team are Calvin's Luke Morrison and Hope's Clayton Dykhouse.
Calvin University sophomore forward Uchenna Egekeze was voted the 2022 MIAA Defensive Player of the Year. Egekeze totaled 17 blocks and 22 steals in the regular season, while starting all 14 MIAA contests.
Egekeze headlines the All-MIAA Second Team, which also includes two-time All-MIAA recipient Bryce Williams from Trine. The other Second Team All-MIAA honorees include Adrian's Connor Pelham, Albion's Ken Thomas, Olivet's Eddie Thigpen, and Trine's Mitchell Geller.
With the 2022 MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament underway, the semifinals will take place on Friday and the championship matchup on Saturday.
