Adrian (9-10, 3-5)
The Adrian College men's basketball team went 1-1 during the week with a win over Calvin and a loss to Alma. The Bulldogs beat Calvin 76-59 and were led by Jordan Harris who scored 28 points. Jeremy Kalonji added 19 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. The Bulldogs fell to Alma by a score of 83-72, but had four scores in double digits. Harris finished with 17 points, Kalonji finished with 14 points, Kendall Bellamy finished with 13 points, and Trey Helinski finished with 11 points. The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday on the road at Kalamazoo.
#24 Albion (17-2, 8-0)
Fueled by an 11-game winning streak, Albion moved into the top 25 nationally this week as D3hoops.com. Albion is the first MIAA school to be ranked in D3hoops.com's Top 25 since Hope finished the 2016-17 season ranked 12th nationally. Last week, Albion concluded an unblemished December with a 78-69 road win at Olivet; the Britons then notched a 75-66 road victory at Calvin Feb. 1 where Caden Ebeling led Albion with 23 points.
Alma (10-9, 4-4)
Alma is riding a three-game winning streak after taking down Kalamazoo 86-78 on Wednesday (Jan. 29) and Adrian 83-72 on Saturday (Feb. 1). Senior Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich.) registered his 500th career assist against the Hornets, becoming the first player in Alma College history to post 1,000 points and 500 assists in his career. Stevens followed that up with a near triple-double against the Bulldogs with 14 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
Calvin (10-9, 4-4)
Calvin men's basketball went 0-2 this past week with losses to Adrian and Albion. The Knights fell to Adrian with a score of 76-59 and lost to Albion with a score of 75-66. Derrick DeVries had a double-double in each lost with 30 points and 14 rebounds against Albion and 22 points and 10 rebounds against Adrian.
Hope (11-8, 4-4)
Hope went 1-1 on the week. On Wednesday, the Flying Dutchmen defeated Trine at home, 88-67, behind a game-high 24 points from junior forward Preston Granger (Lansing, Mich.). Granger became the 42nd Hope player to reach 1,000 career points. On Saturday, Hope lost at Olivet, 73-67. Freshman forward Evan Thomas (Okemos, Mich.) scored a team-high 19 points.
Kalamazoo (4-15, 1-7)
Kalamazoo was on the short end of two MIAA contests, losing to Alma Jan. 29, 86-78, and to Trine Feb. 1, 90-77. Against Trine, Tanner Blyly led the Hornets with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.
Olivet (5-14, 2-6)
Olivet split two home MIAA contests last week. On Wednesday night, the Comets fell to Albion College, 78-69. Junior Eddie Thigpen scored a team-high 22 points, while freshmen Britton Angell and Noah Wiswary contributed 11 points apiece. Angell grabbed a team-best six rebounds. Olivet bounced back to beat Hope College, 73-67, Saturday night. Olivet led by as many as 12 points late in the second half. Thigpen finished the game with 17 points. Angell added 15 points. Senior Ryan Franklin scored a career-best 10 points. Wiswary had seven points, six rebounds and five assists. Colin Carter tallied seven points, five rebounds and five blocks.
Trine (12-7, 6-2)
Ended the week with a 1-1 record that included a 90-77 win against Kalamazoo...three players average 10 or more points for the week in Langston Johnson (18.5 ppg), Maurice Hunter (17.0 ppg) and Marcus Winters (12.5 ppg)...Langston Johnson also had 11 assists for the week...Hunter and Brent Cox both average 5.5 rpg.
