Around the MIAA 

Adrian (7-6, 1-1)

The Bulldogs started conference play on Wednesday. The team went 1-1 during the week. The Bulldogs lost on the road to Alma 84-64. Jordan Harris dropped 19 points in the loss. Adrian out rebounded Alma 40-38. Adrian hosted Kalamazoo on Saturday and won 80-65. Harris had a 30-point afternoon and reached 1,000 career points. Harris joined teammate Jeremy Kalonji who reached 1,000 career points for in December. Harris shot 7-11 from three-point range while Kalonji added 26 points in the effort.


RV Albion (11-2, 2-0)

Albion Head Coach Jody May picked up his 150th victory when the Britons knocked off Hope, 84-70, last Saturday. The Britons made a season-high 11 3-point field goals at Hope. Prior to Satruday, Albion had not made more than nine 3-point baskets in a game this season…Albion shot 54% from the field (37-of-68), its second-best figure of the season, in defeating Calvin last Wednesday…Jamezell Davis, Jr. (Ypsilanti, Mich.) matched his season high with 23 points at Hope where he was 5-of-9 from 3-point range…Caden Ebeling (Shelby Township, Mich.) produced 20-point games against Calvin (26) and Hope (21) by shooting 15-of-25 from the field and 17-of-21 from the free throw line. Ebeling fell a rebound shy of a double-double at Hope…Quinton Armstrong (Nashville, Tenn.) finished double-doubles against Calvin (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Hope (11 points, 11 rebounds) at Hope.


Alma (7-6, 1-1)

Men's basketball split a pair of games last week, defeating Adrian 84-64 and falling to Trine 79-71. Senior Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich.) and sophomore Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich.) were in complete control against the Bulldogs; they combined for 44 points on 18-of-28 shooting. Stevens added seven assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block while Kleiver grabbed five rebounds and dished out one assist. Alma held Adrian to 37 percent shooting from the field while shooting 47 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep, themselves.


Calvin (7-6, 1-1)

Hope (8-5, 1-1)

Hope split its first two games of MIAA play. On January 8, the Flying Dutchmen defeated Olivet College, 89-84, at DeVos Fieldhouse. Hope claimed its eighth victory of the season behind a game-high 28 points from junior center Preston Granger (Lansing, Mich.) and a career-high 21 points from freshman forward Evan Thomas (Okemos, Mich.). On January 11, Hope lost to Albion at home, 84-70. Granger led the Flying Dutchmen with 17 points. Hope is now 8-5 overall.


Kalamazoo (3-10, 0-2)

Kalamazoo dropped both of its games over the week while traveling to Trine and Adrian. Tanner Blyly led the team with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists during the week. Jarnard Smith also tallied 22 points while Merritt Hamann chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds. The team continues MIAA play this week as it hosts Olivet on Wednesday before traveling to Albion on Saturday.


Olivet (3-10, 0-2)

Olivet started MIAA play with two road losses last week -- 89-84 to Hope and 97-70 to Calvin. Against Hope, junior Shawn Pardee led Olivet with 26 points. Juniors Chris Martin and Eddie Thigpen scored 16 points apiece. Martin grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds. Junior Jared Long dished out five assists. Against Calvin, Thigpen led Olivet with 14 points. Martin had 12 points and seven rebounds. Long came off the bench to score 10 points. The Comets travel to play Kalamazoo Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m., and host Alma Saturday night at 7 p.m. Fans are reminded that all remaining home Olivet basketball games this winter will be played at the Upton Center Gymnasium.


Trine (8-5, 2-0)

Finished 2-0 for the week with wins against Kalamazoo (86-69) and Alma (79-71)...Marcus Winters averaged 19.0 ppg for the week on shooting 46.7 percent...also averaged 6.5 rpg to go along with 11 assists and three steals.
