Adrian 80, Trine 72
After being predicted to place last in the MIAA Men's Basketball preseason poll, the Adrian men's basketball team punched their first-ever ticket to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Saturday with an 80-72 victory over Trine in the title game of the MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Albion's Kresge Gymnasium.
Once again Adrian found their offensive groove in the second half, outscoring the Thunder 51-43 in the second stanza. Jeremy Kalonji scored 22 of a game-high 29 points in the second half to ignite the Bulldogs. Kalonji, who went 9-for-9 at the free throw line, added 11 rebounds, also a game-best total.
Adrian's Jordan Harris added 24 points in the victory, with 15 coming in the second half. The Bulldogs shot 55.2 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Trine saw all five starters score in double figures, led by Jake Daniels' 17 points.
