Albion's Buzzer Beater Advances Britons to MIAA Tournament Title Game with Trine

Albion 87, Olivet 85

Albion's Jamezell Davis, Jr., hit a near half-court shot as time expired to lift the Britons to an 87-85 win over Olivet in the first semifinal game of the 2019 MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Davis finished with a game-high 31 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range.

Olivet (13-14) took a one-point lead with less than three seconds on the clock when the Comets turned over Albion in the backcourt, leading to a Chase Booker layup. On the ensuing inbounds play, Davis dribbled quickly to the right and let go from one step past midcourt to have his try hit the rim twice before falling through the net.

Albion (18-8) got a double-double effort from Quinton Armstrong off the bench with 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. 

Olivet was led by Tracy Edmond, who tallied 20 points and a game-high nine assists. Trevor Manuel addded 16 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocked shots. 


Trine 82, Calvin 78

Despite leading for over 38 minutes of the game, Trine's 82-78 win over Calvin in the second semifinal was never more than a 10-point lead in the second half. The Knights were felled by turnovers, committing 12 to Trine's five.

Trine (19-7) shot 50.8 percent from the field, including a 9-of-14 performance by Ellis Cummings; Cummings finished with a game-high 24 points. Myles Copeland and Pete Smith added double-figure scoring efforts with 19 and 16 points, respectively.

Calvin (14-13) were led by 20 points from Derrick DeVries, while Thad Shymanski added 18 points in the setback.
