Four MIAA Men's Basketball Players Garner All-Region Honors from D3hoops.com

Four Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball players were honored this week (March 11), as members from four MIAA institutions received All-Great Lakes Region honors from D3hoops.com.

Hope's Jason Beckman was named to the All-Region second team for the second consecutive season, while Calvin's Derrick DeVries was also tabbed a second team performer. Third-team selections included Olivet's Trevor Manuel and Trine's Pete Smith.

Beckman led Hope in scoring with 20.3 points per game the senior from Shelby, Mich. scored in double figures in 22 of 24 games, including a season-high 38 points against Alma Feb. 9.

DeVries averaged 17.9 points and 6.5 rebounds a game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field. DeVries notched double digits in scoring in 23 of the 26 games, including a season-high 29 point effort in a 74-70 win over Hope on January 9.

Manuel was the Comets' leading scorer at 20.6 points per game and also topped the team in rebounding (9.3 rpg), blocked shots (65), field goals made (212), field goals attempted (394), free throws made (106) and free throws attempted (144). The 65 blocks broke Olivet's single-season record.

Smith led the MIAA in three-pointers made (84) and attempts (217) for a 41.5 shooting percentage. Smith was second on the team with 14.3 points per game while shooting 44.8 percent overall (130-of-290).
