After earning the automatic berth from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association postseason tournament, the Hope men's basketball team will face Augsburg (Minn.) in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship. The winner of Hope/Augsburg will face the winner of host Augustana/Greenville in the 2nd round, hosted by Augustana.
Hope (18-9), winners of eight of their last nine contests, avenged the lone loss they had during that span - a 70-49 loss to Olivet during the MIAA regular season - in the MIAA title game, defeating the Comets 106-94 to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championship. This is the third consecutive trip to the NCAAs for Hope and 27th appearance in the national tournament.
Augsburg (21-7) earned the MIAC automatic berth and will make their fourth trip to the NCAA Championship in program history, and first since the 1999 tournament.
The 2018 Division III Men's Basketball Championship apexes with the last four teams competing at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va., March 16-17.
