FREELAND, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season, head coaches from the seven MIAA football-sponsoring institutions voted on All-MIAA awards.
Albion College's Mark Tocco was voted the MIAA Most Valuable Offensive Player, while Trine University's Keysean Amison was selected as the MIAA's Most Valuable Defensive Player. Albion senior De'Ondric Sanders received the Pete Schmidt Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award.
Briton senior wide receiver Mark Tocco led Albion to a 5-1 mark in league play and an overall record of 9-1. In conference play alone, Tocco concluded the regular season as the league leader with six touchdowns. He also finished second in the MIAA with 36 receptions, 562 receiving yards, and 93.7 yards per game. Tocco was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on October 11, the same week that he was selected as the MIAA Football Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Senior free safety Keysean Amison of Trine assisted the Thunder to a conference record of 3-3 (7-3 overall) during the 2022 campaign. In league play, Amison finished the regular season as the MIAA's leader with 32 solo tackles, 38 assists, 70 total tackles, and 11.7 tackles per game. Amison was selected as the MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week on November 7. He is now a three-time All-MIAA honoree.
