
FREELAND, Mich. -- After two seasons as an affiliate member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), Finlandia University's football program has announced its departure from the league. Beginning with the 2021 season, Finlandia will play as an associate football member in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
Finlandia football kicked off its inagural season in 2015 as an independent NCAA DIII member, prior to joining the MIAA as an affiliate member in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
The Lions will join the Crown College, Greenville University, Iowa Wesleyan University, Martin Luther College, the University of Minnesota Morris, the University of Northwestern, the College of St. Scholastica and Westminster College football programs in the UMAC.
