Redshirt freshman transfer running back Trent Stone ran for a career-high 124 yards to lead all student-athletes, and sophomore quarterback Jack Wurzer threw for 214 more, but it was not enough in a 69-24 loss to Albion Oct. 26. Alma (5-2, 3-1)

The Scots defeated Kalamazoo 28-10 on Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon in a game it led from the start. The Scots (5-2) outgained Kalamazoo 405-267 overall and got two rushing touchdowns apiece from Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich.) and Austin Spratling (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Alma started with a six-yard rushing score from Spratling on the game's opening possession. The Scots were 9 of 13 on third downs in the game and converted three on their second touchdown drive, getting a 22-yard reception from Joseph Schaefer (Lowell, Mich.) and a 21-yard run by Spratling. Schaefer had five catches for 67 yards but it was Chase Hinkle (Concord, Mich.) who led the Scots in receiving. He had season-highs of four receptions and 107 yards, including a 64-yard shot coming out of halftime to set up a touchdown run from Stevens.

Finlandia (0-7, 0-4)

Kenny Kujawa now has 50 catches for 611 yards career, both second best in school history. Christian Creten had 14 tackles vs. Trine, his sixth straight game with at least 10.

RV/RV Hope (6-1, 4-0)

Hope weathered the cold and rainy conditions, its own mistakes and an unbeaten opponent Oct. 26. The Flying Dutchmen used a potent ground attack to hand host Olivet its first loss of the season, 21-7, and seized sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings. Off its first 4-0 start in MIAA play since 2007 — the league-championship season — Hope holds a one-game lead over Olivet and Alma. Quarterback Mason Opple rushed for 213 yards on 25 carries for his second career 200-yard rushing performance, putting him over the 2,000-yard mark for his career. Last year, Opple rushed for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-30 Hope win over Olivet at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium. Senior safety Nick Holt (Norton Shores, Mich.) and junior defensive back Chandler Brown (Woodstock, Ga.) led the Hope defense with seven tackles apiece.

Olivet (6-1, 3-1)

Olivet fell to Hope, 21-7, in a showdown for first-place in the MIAA standings. The final score does not indicate how close the game was. Hope scored a touchdown late in the game to seal its win. Olivet finished the game with 220 yards of offense on 56 plays. Senior Noah McMinn had 24 carries for 111 yards. Freshman Kaleb Jarrett completed 11-of-19 passes for 117 yards.
