Adrian (3-4, 1-3)
Adrian lost a 49-42 stunner to visiting Albion Oct. 20 on a touchdown with 4.3 seconds left…Senior RB Emmanuel Stewart reset his school single-game record with 283 yards rushing on 30 carries, while scoring touchdowns of 2, 6, 82 and 53 yards…the 283 yards are sixth-most for a NCAA Division III single-game this season…Junior TE Joe Cleary recorded a game-high five catches for 66 yards and two TDs…Freshman outside linebacker Steven Moses had a career day of seven tackles and 15 total stops, including two sacks…Stewart originally set the school single-game rushing record of 281 yards (24 carries) on Oct 18, 2014, also against Albion…His 82-yard scamper at 8:51 of the second quarter ranks No. 3 in Bulldogs history for the longest rush from scrimmage…Stewart, the NCAA's second all-time leading Division III rusher among active players, is approaching 5,000 yards for a career (4,898)…twice this season, Adrian has experienced weather delays at home (the Albion game was delay 50 minutes in the second quarter)…senior LB Tim McPhee is second in the MIAA with 8.9 tackles per game…Adrian is ranked eighth in the nation for fewest fumbles lost at only two…senior OLB Chris Adams needs 11 tackles to reach the 200-plateau for his career…Adrian hosts MIAA newcomer Finlandia on Saturday.
Albion (5-2, 2-2)
Justin Thomas (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) racked up a career-high 124 receiving yards in Albion’s victory at Adrian. He was on the receiving end of three touchdowns. Only 14 D-III players have more receiving yards in a game this season…RB Markell McCoy (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) produced his third 100-yard game of the season with 133 yards on 21 carries…LB Quinten Jackson (East Lansing, Mich.) produced Albion’s first defensive score of the season when he returned a fumble 24 yards for a touchdown...In the NCAA D-III statistical leaders, Albion is sixth in total offense (515 yards per game) and first downs (190) and 16th in scoring offense (43 points per game). Individually, QB Kyle Thomas (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) is 11th in points responsible for and 16th in total offense and DE Mitchell Arendsen (Zeeland, Mich./Holland Christian) is 14th in sacks.
Alma (1-6, 0-4)
The Scots fell 17-10 to Kalamazoo on Saturday (Oct. 20) in cold, rainy conditions. Tied at three for most of the game, Kalamazoo got in the end zone early in the fourth quarter and added another touchdown on a blocked punt on Alma's next possession. The Scots (1-6, 0-4 MIAA) were 1-for-4 on fourth down, including 4th and goal on the one-yard line in the second quarter. Junior quarterback Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) had a game- and career-high 85 rushing yards and a passing touchdown to senior Alex Yancy (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North).
Finlandia (0-7, 0-4)
Dillion Hueckstaedt had 24 tackles vs. Trine (Oct. 20), breaking the Lions game record he set two weeks earlier. Hueckstaedt needs nine tackles to break the single-season school record. The Lions held #14 Trine to 59 yards in the air, second lowest in FinnU history. Justin Woolever had a season-best 82 yards on the ground.
Hope (5-2, 3-1)
Quarterback Mason Opple kept his options to himself on a blustery and chilly night at Smith Stadium. The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) made all the right moves and had one big weekend for the Hope College football team. Led by a record-setting Opple, the Flying Dutchmen held off Olivet for a 35-30 homecoming victory that kept Hope one game out of first place in the MIAA standings with three games left. Opple rushed for a career-high 244 yards on a career-high 27 carries and figured in directly in four of the Flying Dutchmen’s five touchdowns. He ran for more yards than any quarterback in Hope College history — surpassing Joe Schwander’s 2005 effort of 209 yards against Alma.
RV/RV Kalamazoo (7-0, 4-0)
The Kalamazoo College football team remained undefeated with a 17-10 win over Alma on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 20. The Hornets are 7-0 for just the fourth time in school history and the first time since 1962. Kalamazoo finished with 234 yards of total offense while holding Alma to 230. Zach VanFaussien was 11-of-23 passing for 73 yards. Jared Pittman led the Hornets in rushing with 76 yards on 14 carries. Jakob Frederick led the Hornet defense with 10 total tackles. Joe Piet finished with nine while Jacob Chantres, Matt Ford and Taylor Jackson each had eight. Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 27 at Olivet at 1:00 p.m.
Olivet (4-3, 2-2)
A fourth quarter comeback fell short, as the Olivet College football team lost 35-30 at Hope. Jamaul Martin had 16 carries for 98 yards, while Matt Ellis had 12 rushes for 92 yards and three touchdowns. Lane Porter completed 17-of-27 passes for 166 yards. Nick Thomas was the leading receiver with 10 catches for 96 yards. Coleton Swims topped the defense with 13 tackles, including eight solo stops.
#12/16 Trine (7-0, 4-0)
Trine beat Finlandia, 31-0....Lamar Carswell rushed for 189 yards on 22 carries and had three touchdowns.
