A pair of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football players were recognized at the national level Tuesday (Nov. 13) for their performances on offense last week, as Trine running back Lamar Carswell and Albion tight end Brian Blanzy were named the top performers at their respective positions on the D3football.com National Team of the Week.
Carswell rushed for a Trine and MIAA single-game record 359 yards against Kalamazoo Nov. 10 and set a school single-season record for total rushing yards with 2,184 on the season. He averaged 14.4 yards per carry. Carswell and the Thunder will represent the MIAA in the NCAA Football Championship, starting Saturday (Nov. 17) at home against St. Norbert.
Blanzy hauled in a pass at midfield and shed a would-be tackler to finish a 93-yard TD in the fourth quarter of a 35-19 win vs. Olivet Nov. 10. The play matched the longest reception in Albion history. He also scored on a 13-yard pass from Kyle Thomas on Albion's first possession.
