Harrison Poeszat of the Kalamazoo College baseball team was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Wednesday (Mar. 13). Poeszat was selected as the best catcher among all DIII baseball this past weekend and was selected to the team for the first time in his career.
The Hornets continued their season on Mar. 9-10 in a round-robin tournament against Grinnell, Elmhurt, and Wartburg. Kalamazoo earned three more wins to move to 9-0, the best start to a season in program history, by defeating the Pioneers 11-0 (7 inn.), Bluejays 13-6, and Knights 13-5.
Poeszat continued his hot start to the season by hitting .615 (8-13) with a 1.154 slugging percentage on a double, two home runs, and 15 RBI in the three games. He had at least two hits and four RBI in all three games, including setting a new personal best with six RBI against Elmhurst. He was 7-9 with runners on base and 5-6 when there were two outs. Also, Poeszat recorded 13 at-bats with only one strikeout over the weekend. He currently ranks in the top five this season in the MIAA for RBI (2nd - 21), hits (4th - 17), batting average (5th - .459), and slugging percentage (5th - .757).
In 137 career games, Poeszat has a .341 batting average, a .424 on-base percentage, and a .521 slugging percentage. He has collected 168 hits, 45 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 140 RBI, 111 runs scored, and 42 walks in 493 at-bats. On the career statistics leaderboard, Poeszat currently ranks first in RBI, first in hit by pitches, second in doubles, fourth in triples, fourth in home runs, fifth in hits, fifth in runs, and fifth in at-bats.
Kalamazoo will continue its season with a road doubleheader at Defiance on Saturday (Mar. 16).
