MIAA Athletes of the Week - January 6, 2020
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the four student-athletes selected as its Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on January 5, 2020.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week
Shawn Pardee, Olivet
Junior, Guard
Otisville, Mich.
Shawn Pardee aided Olivet in their first victory over a D3hoops.com Top 25 team since the 2010-11 season with a game-high 27 points in Olivet's 88-73 victory over No. 18 Carthage Dec. 31. Along with leading the Comets in scoring, Pardee added five rebounds and five assists to one turnover in 37 minutes of play. Along with shooting 4-of-6 from three-point range, Pardee also went 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Pardee and the Comets held Carthage scoreless over the final 3:24 of the game.
MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week
Gabby Timmer, Calvin
Sophomore, Forward
Caledonia, Mich.
Gabby Timmer scored 21 points to go with a season-tying best 15 rebounds to lead all players in both categories in Calvin's 68-50 win over Adrian Jan. 4. Timmer added seven blocked shots, which was not only one off a career-high, but ranks tied for 11th nationally this season. Timmer added four assists, one off a team-tying high for the game, in just 28 minutes on the court.
MIAA Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Mac Robertson, Albion

Mac Robertson finished second in the 200 free (1:48.43) and the 500 free (4:54.89) in Albion's dual meet with No. 30 Wabash Jan. 4.
MIAA Wrestling Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Espinoza, Adrian
Sophomore, 285
Adrian, Mich.
Isaiah Espinoza won the heavyweight division at the Waynesburg Invitational Jan. 4, going 5-0 and earning the event's Most Valuable Wrestler honors. Espinoza started with three pins - including a 34-second fall in Espinoza's first bout - and capped the event with a 5-1 decision against Rocky McGeary of Waynesburg; McGeary was ranked No. 7 by D3wrestle.com.
