MIAA Athletes of the Week - December 30, 2019
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the two student-athletes selected as its Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on December 29, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week
Caden Ebeling, Albion
Junior, Forward
Shelby Twp., Mich.
Caden Ebeling averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in a 2-0 week for Albion that resulted in the Bluffton University McDonald's Holiday Tournament title and Ebeling earning Most Valuable Player honors. Ebeling tallied 22 points, eight rebounds, and three assists - all team highs - in Albion's 73-70 win over Baldwin Wallace Dec. 28. Ebeling then had a game-best 15 points while adding a team-high six rebounds in Albion's 80-54 victory over Otterbein Dec. 29. For the week, Ebeling shot 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week
Amari Brown, Olivet
Senior, Forward
Muskegon, Mich.
Amari Brown averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in two wins for Olivet as the Comets shared the team title at the McDonald's of Bluffton Holiday Classic Dec. 28-29. Brown had a game-high 18 points, including 14 in the first half, to fuel Olivet's 61-59 win over previously unbeaten Westminster (Pa.) Dec. 28. Brown also had seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots in the win.
