MIAA Athletes of the Week - December 23, 2019

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the two student-athletes selected as its Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on December 22, 2019. 
 
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
 
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition. 

MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

Derrick DeVries, Calvin
Senior, Wing
Grand Rapids, Mich.

Derrick DeVries helped Calvin to a 2-0 week at the St. Pete Classic Dec. 19-20. DeVries averaged 28.0 points in the two wins, shooting nearly 62 percent from the field and going 6-of-9 from three-point range. Against Emory and Henry Dec. 19, DeVries just missed a double-double with game-highs of 26 points, nine rebounds, and six assists while adding a block and a steal. In Calvin's win over Skidmore Dec. 20, DeVries again was the game-high scorer with 30 points while chipping in six rebounds, five assists, and one steal.

MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week

Rain Hinton, Albion
Junior, Forward/Center
Fort Wayne, Ind.

Rain Hinton had a game-high 22 points in 22 minutes of play in Albion's 90-57 win over Kalamazoo in an MIAA contest Dec. 18. Hinton went 8-of-12 from the field while going perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line, while not committing a turnover in the game. Hinton added four assists, four rebounds, and two steals in the home win.

MIAA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Riley Rasler, Trine
Junior, 157
LaGrange, Ind.

Riley Rasler went 2-1 as an individual while competing at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas Dec. 22. Rasler had Trine's lone win against No. 1 Wartburg, scoring an 11-0 major decision against Shea Hartzler. Rasler then added a 16-1 tech fall against No. 14 North Central's Cole Cervantes, which was again Trine's lone victory against the nationally-ranked foe. Rasler's loss was to No. 19 UW-La Crosse's Grant Zamin, who is ranked third nationally by D3wrestle.com.
